The Ryder Rathband Trophy

For the member who gains the most Salon Acceptances in a year.

The goal:

To encourage members

◦ To Enter National and International Salons and Exhibitions

◦ To Experience competition from a much wider body of photographers

◦ To Gauge the standard of his or her own work on an National and International level.

◦ To Use the competition as a stepping stone to gain honours from FIAP

(International Salon and Exhibition acceptances) as well as Distinctions in RPS and others.

The Rules:

The Salons and Exhibitions must be:

◦ National or International Salons/Exhibitions (plus the Western Counties Photographic Federation).

◦ Open to Everyone who is a member of the Devizes Camera Club.

◦ Approved by RPS, PSA, PSSA, FIAP, PAGB, WCPF, or any other Photographic Society or

  Organisation recognised Nationally or Internationally.

◦ Lists of these salons are on the DCC Website under Salons / Salons and Competitions.

◦ The deciding factor is that the Salon or Exhibition must be open to everyone who is a member of the Devizes Camera Club (e.g. not just for males or for Associates or for any other restricted group e.g. RPS Members only)

◦ The Devizes Camera Club Committee will have the final say if there is a dispute in this regard.

Points allocated as follows:

◦ One Point for an Acceptance

◦ Two Points for a Ribbon, Honourable Mention or Highly Commended

◦ Three Points for a Bronze, Silver or Gold Medal

◦ MAXIMUM of THREE acceptances per original image (In line with FIAP rules)

Members are advised not to enter an image more often as it will be a wasted entry.

Method for Administration:

◦ It is the responsibility for each member to notify the person administering this competition that they have had

acceptances in each Salon or Exhibition AND to provide a web link to the salon and results page.

◦ The Catalogue and Results Pages, usually available online shortly after the judging, is to be used in the event of a dispute.

◦  Points gained will be shown on the Salons web page.
The first column will give the points for each Acceptance/HM/Medal etc

The second column will give the cumulative total

The Competition:

To follow a calendar year - 1st January to the 31st December annually.

The deciding date for each Salon will be the final published judging date of each event.

These dates are listed on all Official Salon/Exhibition Entry Form or Website.

Please notify Joan Ryder Rathband of your awards and acceptances.

Important:

To assist with the administration of the Ryder Rathband Trophy competition, we are requesting all members to:

Forward to Joan:

  • your official results messages (which you receive from the Salon organisers)
  • as well as the link to the salon websites - please

We need the official notification messages, please, as proof of your acceptances and awards, as we will not accept titles only from this year onwards.

The official messages list the name of the salon as well as the sections entered and the proper titles. We had to do so much in the way of guessing and searching last year to find the proper titles, sections and names of Salons.

Please ensure that

      1.   you do not change the titles of your images once they have been accepted in a salon.

      2.   you do not enter very similar images under different titles

If you ever wish to apply for distinctions e.g. FIAP or from another Photographic Society, you will have problems proving your acceptances, especially if the same or similar image has been entered with different titles.

Please refer to the section entitled Ethics Statement and Standards Policy of the Photographic Society of America http://psa-photo.org/about-psa/ethical-practices/

Remember that you can only claim THREE acceptances for an image (both for the Ryder Rathband Trophy and for FIAP) so it is a waste of money entering the same image again if it has already gained three acceptances.

The last date of the judging is the date we take for the salons. This is important at the beginning and at the end of each year as the competition runs from the 1st January to the 31st December each year. It was the fairest decision we could make in this regard.
